Therapy for perinatal anxiety and depression

What is the perinatal period, and how do I know I need help?

The perinatal period is the period of time between the moment of conception through the first year of life. Moms become vulnerable during this time because of major life transitions including adding another member to the family, intense hormonal shifts, and recovery from birth.

As you read the symptoms below, keep in mind that many of these symptoms are very common during the first two weeks after giving birth. It may be time to seek help if they last beyond two weeks.

Signs you might need more support during the perinatal period:

  • Difficulty bonding with your baby

  • Increase in scary thoughts during and/or after pregnancy

  • Difficulty sleeping even when you need to

  • Feeling hopeless

  • Feeling sad all day most days

  • Frequent crying spells

  • Increased anger

  • Trouble communicating with partner or loved ones

  • Feeling isolated or alone

  • Feeling intense worry about something happening to your baby

You’re ready to start on the path to a joyful motherhood experience.

How therapy works

You can learn strategies that will allow you to experience healing.

Did you know that 1 in 5 moms will suffer from a perinatal mood and anxiety disorder? This is in addition to the 80% of moms who experience baby blues in the first two weeks following birth. These statistics highlight a significant and common challenge, reminding you that you are not alone.

In therapy, we will dive into the complex impact of anxiety and depression on your mind, body, and soul. Together, we will identify and challenge the thought patterns that negatively influence your overall well-being. You will also learn how to establish effective communication with your loved ones, enabling them to better support you in your role as a mom.

I am dedicated to providing a safe and non-judgmental space where you can openly discuss your struggles. Through our sessions, we will explore the deep emotional pain you are experiencing and work towards healing. My approach combines empathy, compassion, and practical wisdom to help you navigate this challenging period.

Therapy is not just about addressing the pain; it’s also about rediscovering yourself and finding new sources of joy. We will use a combination of therapeutic interventions, education, and supportive connection to help you regain a sense of self and hope. As you progress, you will begin to uncover the resilience within you and start to experience the joy that motherhood can bring.

Through this process, you will find that healing is possible. You will learn strategies to manage your symptoms and build a stronger, more positive outlook on life. The journey may be challenging, but with support and guidance, you will move towards a place of greater peace and fulfillment.
